About the TBA

The TBA is the state bridge association for Tasmania.  As such, it is affiliated with the Australian Bridge Federation Inc. (ABF).  The TBA aims to serve the needs of Tasmanian bridge players through actively promoting and fostering interest in the game in Tasmania.

In particular, the TBA:

·       actively represents bridge clubs in Tasmania at the national level through the ABF;

·       administers the National Master Points Scheme in Tasmania;

·       conducts or supervises the conduct, of National events in Tasmania, State Championships, Congresses and all other Red or Gold Master Point events held in Tasmania;

·       strives to develop competitive bridge State-wide, including establishment and implementation of the Association's Regulations and appropriate procedures;

·       assists individual bridge players and/or groups of bridge players with rulings and advice on bridge laws, ethics and procedures, including acting as the final point of appeal against rulings given under the terms of the Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge and of the Regulations of the Association;

·       conducts training and certification of tournament directors;

·       undertakes any other activities considered appropriate and/or necessary for the advancement of bridge in Tasmania.

As the largest bridge club in Hobart, the TBA also provides opportunities of all kinds at its Clubrooms at 41 Newdegate Street, North Hobart, for the development of club-based bridge in Hobart.  The Clubrooms comfortably accommodate up to 25 tables.  The TBA currently offers eight duplicate sessions each week, including two supervised/duplicate sessions where beginners can receive assistance from an experienced teacher.  The TBA also offers courses for beginners and post-beginners during the course of each year, both at the TBA's rooms and through Adult Education: for details, contact Jenny Penny on (03) 6229 4565.
