Your Committee

Following the Annual General Meeting held on March 18 your committee has been busy in ensuring that the annual Tasmanian Festival of Bridge was a resounding success. New committee members Erica McCoull and Paul Fredheim were welcomed and have quickly become involved in various activities.
At the first meeting of the new committee on April 11, the objectives for the year were discussed and tasks were assigned to individual members to ensure that the club functions in an efficient and cooperative manner.
The basic objective of the club is “to promote and foster interest in the game of Bridge in Tasmania”, and all specific objectives are aimed at achieving this. Some of the key objectives discussed included:
To increase membership through strong marketing and training and development programs. To develop a range of activities to create a better social environment for members. To enhance the TBA website to create a single “go to” point for all club information and reporting.
To achieve these and other objectives, tasks and functions required were logically grouped under four main headings and responsibilities were assigned to committee members.
- Bridge Operations: Hugh Grosvenor
- Member Experience Margaret Gibbs & Paul Fredheim
- Training and Development: Sue Falkingham
- State Bridge, Projects and Events: Pam Murphy & Erica McCoull
These people are supported by a large group of volunteers from amongst club members, and your support is much appreciated . If you would like to offer your assistance please contact any committee member.

Sue Falkingham is holding her next series of Beginners Training Courses on May 15/16. The daytime course commences Monday May 15 from 1:00-3:00pm. The evening course commences Tuesday May 16 from 7.30-9.30pm. Both courses run for 6 weeks at a cost of $120 per person. To quote Sue, “tell friends, tell neighbours, tell family, tell everyone”.
A special State Training Weekend is being held in Hobart on the weekend of May 20/21. This course is being run by Liam Milne a well known ABF Bridge Trainer. Details are on the website.
And finally a reminder about the very popular Eastcoaster Swiss Pairs held at the Eastcoaster Resort at Orford on the weekend of August 19/20. This is a very popular event so get in early. Entry details are on the website.
That’s enough for now.
Good Bridging!!
