Spring has sprung, even though it‘s hard to believe, great weather for bridge though! A reminder to enter our Spring Pairs on Sunday 29th September, which has been named after Ron Spencer, who donated money to the club for a party to celebrate his life. This will take place after play with food and drink provided. In response to feedback from members we have decided to also provide lunch.
The committee has been working hard to fulfill our member’s requests:
- The mentoring program is going well with over 20 players receiving advice. It’s not too late if you want to become involved.
- It is wonderful to see how popular Sue‘s Saturday morning lessons have been, the final of this series is at 10.30 am on Saturday 28th September a Defense Masterclass.
- David Robinson will be conducting 4 free classes on the first four Wednesdays of October. See Coming Events on the website for more details.
- Chris Carolan has kindly constructed a very attractive newsuggestion box.
To increase opportunities for the growing number of enthusiastic novice players, we are running 2 events next month:
- A Balanced Teams Night, running in conjunction with Roger’s teams on Friday evening, October 25th. Players will enter as pairs and will be formed into teams - the pair with the least masterpoints will be teamed up with the pair with the most, second least with second most etc. There will be prizes for the winning team. It is a social evening; bring a drink and/or a plate if you wish.
- Following the popularity of the mentoring program a Teams of Three event will be held on Wednesday evening, October 30th. This is where 3 inexperienced players are joined by an experienced captain, who plays one round with each player. There will be some time allowed for discussion of the hands.
Please support us in these endeavours to provide an all-inclusive club environment.
Congratulations to the following members, who earned a promotion last month:
- Club Master: Sue Thompson-Walker
- Local Master: Toby Meredith, Steve Thollar
- Bronze Local Master: Catherine Catt
- Silver Local Master: Lynne Barlow
- State Master: Leonie Atkins, Jegs Nuttall
- Silver Life Master: John Grosvenor
We are saddened by the recent passing of two valued club members, Jamie Bayley-Stark and Bob Patterson. Along with other club members, I attended celebrations of their lives, which were certainly remarkably full. Our condolences to their families, especially Jamie’s partner, committee member, Fran Healy.
Happy Bridging everyone
Pam
